Fall is such a beautiful time to update your family photos, but I know getting everyone ready can feel like a lot. A little preparation beforehand can make the whole experience feel much easier and more relaxed.
Here are a few simple ways to prepare for your fall family photo session in Dallas.
Choosing the Right Location
For outdoor family sessions, I choose locations based on the season, light, and the overall feeling we want for your photos. I also love spaces that give children room to move and explore, so you don’t have to worry about finding the perfect location yourself.
What to Wear
Start with one outfit you love and build the rest of your family’s wardrobe around it. I recommend coordinating instead of matching and choosing soft neutrals, muted colors, and textures that photograph beautifully together.
Cream, oatmeal, beige, soft blue, muted green, warm brown, and dusty tones are always beautiful options.
Most importantly, choose clothing that feels comfortable and allows everyone to move naturally.

Preparing the Kids
Your children do not need to be perfectly behaved for beautiful family photos. Instead of telling them they need to smile or “be good,” let them know you’re going somewhere together to play and take a few pictures along the way.
Make sure little ones are rested and have eaten before the session when possible. And if they need time to warm up, explore, or take a little break, that’s completely okay.
I expect kids to be kids.
A Little Note for Mom
Give yourself more time than you think you’ll need.
Try your outfit on before session day, lay everyone’s clothes out ahead of time, and make sure everything is ready a day or two before.
You’re usually the one making sure everyone else is prepared, so give yourself a little extra space to get ready too.
During Your Session
You don’t need to know what to do in front of the camera. I’ll guide you when needed and give your family space to simply be together. Your children can move, play, explore, and be themselves. You don’t need to spend the entire session asking them to smile or look at the camera.
Some moments will be gently directed, while others will happen naturally.
Less perfection, more connection.
After Your Session
After our time together, I’ll carefully select and edit your images and deliver your finished gallery within approximately 2–3 weeks.
Then this little season of your family is yours to keep
